Can I recycle this?

You may think you're doing a good thing by trying to recycle as much as you can, however putting things in recycling that cannot be recycled can actually contaminate the whole load in turn doing more harm than good. Knowing what you can recycle and what not to makes all the difference in keeping more waste out of landfills!

Here are some things that can NOT be recycled in your curbside recycling bins:

  • Contaminated cardboard (pizza boxes or anything with liquid soaked in)

  • ANYTHING containing liquid

  • Plastic bags (bring these back to the grocery store bins to be recycled)

  • Ceramics (coffee mugs, dishes, etc.)

  • Bubble wrap, plastic wrap, etc

  • Water bottle caps & labels (the bottle can be recycled but not the cap or label)

  • Light bulbs

  • Disposable food trays & to-go containers as well as to go cups

  • Shredded or colored paper

  • Egg Cartons

  • Styrofoam

  • Mirrors

  • Treated or painted wood

  • Window panes

  • Aerosol cans & batteries

  • Paper towels & napkins

  • Cords or anything that can become tangled (this can break machines and cause injury to employees working within the recycling facilities)

If you are still uncertain if materials can be recycled or not contact your township to be sure. Being more mindful of what you put in recycling bins can make a HUGE difference in the end.
